What are Injectable Dermal Fillers?

Fillers are a type of cosmetic injectable commonly used to restore volume to facial features that have lost their plumpness, whether that is due to age, weight loss, or any other reason. The procedure works by injecting the liquefied dermal filler under the skin to fill in areas lacking volume or shape. At Dr. Busso, we’re excited to offer injectable fillers for our Miami, FL and Beverly Hills, CA clients who wish to smooth sagging skin, wrinkles, and fine lines for a younger-looking face. Filler injections are also a perfect complement for other aesthetic treatments to take your cosmetic transformation to the next level. Our clinic offers a range of hand-selected filler treatments and techniques to meet a variety of aesthetic needs so we welcome you to schedule your dermal filler consultation with Dr. Mariano Busso to discuss your treatment options.

How do Dermal Filler Injections work?

Before your treatment, Dr. Busso will meet with you to discuss your cosmetic goals and suggest a filler option that’s right for you. Dr. Busso will use his experience to determine the amount of filler that is needed and will gradually and evenly inject it through a very fine needle or cannula. Half or an entire syringe could be used, depending on the desired result. To keep you comfortable throughout your treatment, our office uses a special device that creates vibrations to distract your brain from any discomfort. Fillers can be injected at both our Miami, FL and Beverly Hills, CA clinics in just a few minutes.

Filler injections are usually tolerable pain-wise due to a device we use that uses vibrations to distract the brain from feeling pain in the injection area. You should expect bruising and swelling immediately after, but these symptoms will dissipate within a few short days. Typical results can last from three months to a full year, depending on the product and the area of injection. Touch-ups may be needed periodically to optimize results.

Dermal Fillers FAQs

How long do dermal fillers last?

Dermal fillers typically last between 6 to 18 months, depending on the type of filler, the injection site, and individual factors. Thinner fillers used for fine lines may dissolve faster, while thicker fillers for deeper wrinkles can last longer.

Which fillers last 2 to 5 years?

Semi-permanent fillers like Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid) and Bellafill (polymethyl methacrylate microspheres) can last for 2 to 5 years. These fillers stimulate collagen production, leading to longer-lasting results.

What happens when fillers wear off?

When fillers wear off, the treated area gradually returns to its pre-filler state. There’s typically no adverse effect, and some people even report their skin looks better than before due to stimulated collagen.

What is the downtime for dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers have minimal downtime, with most people resuming their daily activities immediately. Some mild swelling or bruising may occur, but it usually subsides within a few days.

What is a dermal filler?

A dermal filler is a gel-like substance injected beneath the skin to restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. They are made from various materials, including hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, and poly-L-lactic acid.

What is the most natural looking filler?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are often considered the most natural-looking option. They integrate well with the skin’s natural tissues and can be easily adjusted or dissolved if needed.

How often do you need dermal fillers?

The frequency of dermal filler treatments varies depending on the type of filler and individual needs. Most people require touch-up treatments every 6 to 18 months to maintain their results.

What happens to fillers over time?

Over time, dermal fillers are gradually broken down and absorbed by the body. This process varies depending on the filler type, with some lasting longer than others.
